Sirius Black sauntered into the Great Hall for the first breakfast of the year at Hogwarts. He made his way down the table to a spot beside Remus Lupin, a good friend of his. "Good morning Remus. Sleep well?" He asked as he grabbed the floating rack of toast and snatched a few pieces off.

"I slept incredibly well. And you?" Remus replied, buttering a biscuit and taking a bite. "Excellent food too.'' He added with a nod of approval.

After shoving a piece of toast in his mouth and swallowing Sirius nodded. "Extremely well. Though someone woke me up with their snoring once or twice..." He replied then took another bite of toast while trying to decide what else to eat. He agreed with Remus, the food was amazing. It always was.

"Erm...That might have been me," said someone coming up behind the boys. Peter stifled a yawn and sat on the other side of Remus.

"No, no," Sirius said as he grabbed some hotcakes. "It wasn't you Peter." He said, glancing at his other friend. "It was that annoying guy with the black hair. You know, that James Potter guy." He nodded with a smirk as he doused his hotcakes in maple syrup.

"What about me?" James asked as he sat across from the trio, grinning at Sirius.

Sirius grinned back. "I was just saying how you seem to have a bit of a snoring problem, mate, considering you kept waking me up all through the night." He said putting some fruit on his plate. Peter chuckled from his seat on the far side of Remus then began to eat his breakfast and avoid any possible confrontations. Remus watched his two friends with amusement while he consumed his own breakfast.

"At least I don't drown in my own drool," James pointed out with a nod towards Sirius as he put some fruit on his own plate.

"Helps moisturize my skin," Sirius replied with a smirk, then he and James broke into a fit a laughter.

"You are both absolutely mad." Remus mumbled before going back to his breakfast. He coughed and nearly choked on a bit of biscuit as Sirius clapped him on the back.

"Ah, Remus. You are the humorous one." He said then looked at James. "Wouldn't you agree James? I'd say he and Peter are just as mad as we are." James nodded and ducked as Remus chucked a piece of toast at him.

Soon after, the schedules were handed out and breakfast passed almost too quickly. The four boys left the Great Hall as a group discussing the schedules they were given.

"Do we always have the same classes?" Peter asked in awe.

"I expect that we're just such great friends that the Professors don't dare separate us." Sirius said grinning while Remus and James laughed.

"Well Transfiguration is first," Remus said still smiling. "So let's get to the class and grab seats....er, before anyone can split us up." After a bit of grumbling James and Sirius agreed, while Peter followed quickly behind. Once they reached the class James paused in the doorway as his eyes fell upon a girl with long black hair sitting in a seat near the front of the class. She was deep in discussion with a stern looking woman who had her hair pulled into a tight knot at the back of her head.

"Who's that McGoogles is talking to?" Sirius asked.

"Is that Starla?" Remus asked as he recognized the girl. Sirius looked closer and his eyes widened when he realized Remus was right.

"Unfortunately," James grumbled, frowning at his sister's back. Hearing her name, Starla turned and looked at the four boys who had entered the room while McGonagall went to the front of the class. She frowned when she saw who it was.

"Dearest brother, is there a problem?" She asked, standing and approaching the group of four.

"Yeah, you're in here," James replied with a scowl. "Why don't you scurry off to your own class?"

"Because I enjoy causing you agony, dunderhead." Starla replied sarcastically, completely ignoring the question. "I see your friends have decided to stick around for yet another year," She eyed Sirius, Remus and Peter the looked back to her brother. "I'd love to know what you did to convince them you were worth their time. Pay them off, did you?"

"Zip it, twerp. Go back to your front-row seat and continue kissing McGonagall's robe hem." James snarled.

Rolling her eyes at her brother's childish behavior, Starla turned and made her way back to her seat."Moron," She muttered, though made sure it was just loud enough for James to hear.

"I still say you two were meant to be twins," Peter said watching Starla take her seat once more.

"Thank Merlin we aren't." James grumbled. "I'm so glad she's a year younger. She shouldn't even be here, but she's convinced McGoogles to let her sit in on a few of these classes. I can't imagine the reason, but I've stopped wondering about my sister's sanity." He huffed and took a seat with Sirius, Remus and Peter following suit. "She should just stay with the second years and leave me be."

"Well-" Remus began but was promptly cut off by the bell to signal the beginning of class.

"Everyone settle down please," Professor McGonagall said as everyone took their seats. "First I must welcome you to your first Transfiguration class of the year. We will briefly go over what to expect from the class this year then jump right in to your first lesson. So please take out your books, wands and supplies and we will begin."

"That had to have been the longest and most boring thing I've ever had to endure." James complained as they made their way to Charms.

"Except perhaps all the classes we took last year," Sirius pointed out sourly.

"And the year before that," James finished. Both gave a dramatic sigh as they trudged into the Charms classroom.

At the front of the class stood Professor Flitwick, balanced on a set of books as always. The four settled into their seats, taking out their supplies.

"Welcome to your Charms class. We will have a brief overview of what to expect from the class this year, then we will begin a short lesson if we have any time left." A heavy sigh escaped Sirius and he and James slid down in their seats in unison, while Remus sat ready to take notes, if need be. Peter seemed conflicted between following James and Sirius' lead or Remus'.

Charms passed a bit quicker than Transfiguration had, and from there the foursome went to a, luckily, very short History of Magic class. As usual, they spent that whole class talking and fooling around. When it ended, the bell for lunch finally rang and they hurriedly made their way to the Great Hall. They sat and filled their plates with food in silence then began to eat. After a moment Sirius and James locked gazes and started laughing.

"What's so funny?" Peter asked, looking around hopefully. Remus watched the two curiously.

"Nothing." James said smirking. "Nothing at all."

"You two..." Remus began then watched as a boy with long greasy black hair and a large hooked nose passed them. James and Sirius followed Remus' gaze and watched as Severus Snape made his way to the Slytherin table and sat by himself at the very end of the table. Sirius smirked and looked to James.

"Did you see the grease dripping from his hair? He quite possibly could be the source for the Black Lake."

James started laughing and shook his head. "That's so horrible, Sirius. Though I must admit, brilliant all the same." He grinned. Then he and Sirius were lost in a fit of laughter while Remus sighed heavily and shook his head. He ate his lunch silently and quickly.

"Well I'll see you in Potions. I'm going to head down early." Remus said standing and walking away from the table where Sirius and James had just started to eat after their laugh-fest. Peter quickly scrambled to his feet and followed Remus.

"What's with him?" James asked after watching Remus and Peter leave.

"No clue." Sirius said with a shrug. "We'll figure it out in Potions. My main focus right now, though, is this food."
The first (revised) chapter of my Marauders fanfiction. Starting in third year. It's short, but I'm sure the chapters will get longer as they increase in number. Hopefully this version is better and goes further than the first try at it.

Enjoy!
